Celebrity Interiors: Tamara Mellon's NY and London Spreads

Tamara Mellon, the head honcho of Jimmy Choo has been in the news lately following the sale of her company to Labelux by the London based Private Equity firm Tower Brook Capital for an estimated $850 Million. Having invested in the promising East London based shoemaker Jimmy Choo over a decade ago, Tamara has turned the label around and taken it to new heights as her shoes have become a staple of every fashionista's wardrobe.

Apart from her successful business, Tamara has also acquired some tasty real estate in New York and London which have been featured in Harpers Bazaar and Elle Decor respectively.  Lets start with her New York apartment which she acquired from real estate obsessed heir to the Seagram fortune, Edgar Bronfman Jr for an earth shattering $20 million.

Her duplex apartment in the Carhart Mansion in the Upper East Side which measures over 7,000 Sq. ft was done over Brit Ex pat designer to the stars Martyn Lawrence-Bullard. Martyn and Tamara reportedly traveled to several countries including Turkey and Morocco, sourcing  the right items to fill up  her sprawling apartment. The results included a mix of retro furnishings reminiscent of Austin Powers mixed with some glamorous and contemporary artwork.

Some of the highlights of the interiors include The Warhol silkscreen of Grace Kelly, The Terrence Koh neon
installation "Love for eternity" the bizarre snake pictures above her white sofa and the fabulous office desk.

Across the Atlantic in Notting Hill, Tamara purchased a slightly smaller flat which was also done up by Mr. Bullard.

The results were very similar and one can notice that Tamara had moved some of her favourite items from her New York Apartment to her London home. Some of the items that reappear again include the Grace Kelly
silkscreen, master bedroom headboard, dining chairs and light fixtures. Overall the London pad seems more cohesive and refined compared to her NY pad.

No comparison would be complete without using the right barometer. For this reason the better apartment would have to be judged on the fabulousness of her shoe closets!!!

The scale is tipped in favour of her NY shoe closet as it looks uncluttered and more functional. What a lucky lady she is.

* Correction, Tamara and Martyn decorated her London pad first and then moved her belongings to New York and not vice versa.
