Today is make or break day...Sicis mosaic boards have arrived and they are looking rather glamorous already, just leaning against the walls and I can already visualise the crowds of people standing by the bar with their reflections filling the gold copper coloured shimmery tiles that fill the space with glamour.
My intern has learnt a great deal this morning; she must have learnt by now that all the lessons she was taught in University get thrown out of the window when you have your back against the wall. Although my lovely Lebanese joiner is absolutely brilliant, he is a control freak “Giorgio Armani never likes other peoples work”.
So the lessons today were:
1. Never lose your temper when there may be people around who could prejudge the situation and show you in a bad light.
2. Keep your team around you calm and make them work together, not against each other.
3. Don’t be reluctant to get dirty and mix in when needed on site. This sets a good example for workmen and shows that you are committed to the cause.
4. Often times you have to be decisive as things do not always go to plan. In the long food chain of suppliers, someone is bound to get a measurement wrong so it is always good to have a plan B or C or D.
So let’s hope my intern has got that under control now. God I have a shitty flu, I really should be in bed!
