R.I.P David Collins... A design Icon

On the 17th July 2013 the world of Interior Design suffered a great loss. The designer David Collins passed away. He will leave behind an incredible legacy. A legacy of inimitable work that will undoubtedly stand the test of time. A form of Art to inspire all who come into contact with it.

As a young designer he was an Iconic figure to me leading the way forward with awe inspiring environments that enabled you to experience what can only be described as works of art. Each location he created gave you the sensation of walking onto a film set, a moment from another era, you felt like you were part of something so singular and special.
His ability of taking the traditional and merging it with modern elements, minute details, creating seamless perfection. Lighting always playing a huge factor of conveying the required mood, always unique and innovative. Only enhancing the clever use of colour and the mixture of components.
Now when I'm visiting one of my many favourite Collins places I will do so with a different mindset. No longer will I enjoy them thinking excitably about where and what he would do next, now my visits will be filled with quiet contemplation and appreciation of his achievements and wishing we could have had more.
His passing is not just a sad tragic loss for his family but also to those who worked along side him. His passing has created a void that can never be filled his incredible work only highlights this fact.
Michael Caines wife Shakira once told him... "David women want to look good in restaurants, forget about the food, forget about the service, women just want to look good!" How could you fail to not look good within one of his creations?!
All that's left for me to say is.... Thank you Mr Collins!! You will be truly missed.
